Film Frenzy
In the last few days I find myself floundering in the vast amounts of free time on my hands. After weeks of studying or thinking about how I should be studying it is odd to lay on my bed reading a book without feeling a twinge of guilt. In the last few days I have rediscovered America's favorite time killer and have succumbed to the joys of the great cinema. Youth in Revolt...what to say? I guess I should just tell you that it stars Michael Cera who plays his usual geeky self AND his risque alter ego Francios(pictured below). If that isn't enough to tempt you then you are probably a humorless robot. The second film I watched was The Graduate. I have been meaning to see it forever and it is a movie with such a big reputation that I was a little afraid that I would be underwhelmed by what it would actually turn out to be. Not true in the least! I loved it! I would watch it again and again and again(and I probably will). I think I really liked how the story wasn't sugar coated and there was no happy ending where everything magically resolves itself. I also would not mind stealing Mrs. Robinson's look. There is no denying she is a real fox.
Funnily enough both movies are set in California and at least parts of them in Berkeley! What an odd coincidence.

[kr:EADDZY] day
FEW. I can't even express how relieved I am to have this morning over and done with! I think I used up my body's supply of adrenaline for the next year or two, so do not be alarmed if I flop around shrugging my shoulders and staring blankly off into the distance in a very unSadie-like manner for the next long while.
The morning started off great, the alarm sounded and I jumped out of my comfy bed in lightening speed dashed to the kitchen to make coffee and started to restuff my brain full of European Union Law in the fear that some of the cramming from the night before had dribbled out of my ear during my sleep. At 8:45 sharp I was out my front door, just as planned. Wait, I didn't even mention the BEST omen of all. THE SUN WAS OUT AND SHINING FULL BLAST. There was no way this day could have turned out bad...until the brisk walk to school gave me time to let my mind wander and I started to flip out about the oral exam ahead.
Just as I reached the examination room my jaw dropped in horror and I realized that I had forgotten the single most important item that I absolutely positively NEED for my exam...my BRAIN! No, just kidding. I had forgotten my neon yellow exchange student grade booklet. With out that blinding little piece of paper there is no way my grade could have been recorded, so I sent a message to my loyal friend and study buddy Smella(clever code name) asking her to explain the situation if the professor should arrive and hurried as fast as I could back home.
I must have looked super ridiculous runwalkshuffling all the way down the cobble stones back to my apartment. I imagine I looked like I was doing the getoutofmywayIneedtowee power walk all the way home(you know the one, we have all done it! The one where you walk extremely fast over crossing your strides to avoid accidental leakage while simultaneously attempting to look calm and collected moving at a running speed) and when I finally got there I whirl-winded through the house grabbed the goods and hopped on my bike and sped back to school.
I got there JUST in the nick of time to add my name to the list of students being tested, took a seat and awaited my doomful scholarly demise. I witnessed about ten other students brave the panel of three professors, each one made my heart beat faster and faster while each question asked became more and more cryptic and impossible to answer. By the time there was only one person left between me and certain death I wasn't able to form sentences or tell you what color my shirt was, what street I live on, what I ate for breakfast, and I would have probably had to struggle to spit out my own name. I have never had a near death experience before today, but I am more than willing to let this be my last.
My name was called and I got up and moved in slow motion towards the the front of the room, it is quite incredible that I made it all the way up there without making a scene on my jello legs. I should have received top marks for that feat alone. I received my question, sat down at the front desk and started to frantically flip through the codice(book of treaties) trying to form my thoughts and utilize the alloted thought time as effectively as possible. Too bad I could hear my heart beats pounding away against my temples and my hands were shaking so bad I could barely hold on to my pen. Then all too soon my thought time was up. I took a deep breath, wished this sweet world goodbye and dove in. I will skip the gory details, they are not very interesting and honestly the hole affair is quiet blurry in my mind now(my memory loss is probably related to those chemicals that are released in women's brains after they give birth to make them forget how painful the event was and to make them even consider birthing ever again). The whole thing seemed to last forever, yet a nanosecond at the same time.
When I heard my lovely professor proclaim I had won(yes, I do believe won is the correct word to use in this situation) a 27/30 I wanted to jump up and do every stupid dance known to man while blowing kisses and hurling flower petals everywhere.
When I stood up and turned to face the class I found a second surprise, I had peed my pants! No, this is another joke...all though that would have made the best story ever! In reality I was surprised to see one of my bffs P mzan(second clever code name) sitting aside Smella. P mzan had sneakily crept in while I was at the chopping block and had made me an encouraging miniposter out of the back page of his law book. It was great because I had just told him the night before about how I love to make posters for my friends' sport matches or plays etc. and low and behold I had one of my very own!
Now at this very moment I should be studying for my International Law exam...but danger is my middle name so I am going to post about this joyus fairy tale day and slink off to bed to dream of warmer days.
PS The photo was taking near Burrow market in London. The English are so kind, they seem to post advice everywhere and their announcements in public transportation stations and vehicles were very polite. I may have just been thrown off by the accent though :)

Le Gay Pari!
No sun for the second week here in Pavia. When people used to ask me about the weather in California and whether it really was as sunny as everyone says I would tell them it depends, but that it usually isn't any sunnier than any other place. Surprise! I was WRONG. As it turns out I have been spoiled with sunny non-season weather my whole life! I just didn't have anything to compare it with, but trust me fair mild winds and faint winter sun, I shall never belittle your splendor ever again.
While attempting to not look out the window at the never ending greyness I came across more pictures of Paris from two summers ago.

Strut yo stuff
I took these pictures the summer of 2008 on a street right by the Palace of Versailles. I was originally trying to take pictures of the cool cobble stones but this spunky little bird just kept bobbing and weaving straight towards me. I think this bird is ready for the cat walk Mr. Valentino...or I guess Ms. Chanel would be more appropriate since it was in France.
boy. by band of outsiders
I stumbled across these amazing polaroids from the boy. by band of outsiders lookbook. I love the wallpaper in the first photo, it rivals the ancient stuff on my apartment walls here in Italy, and let me tell you, that is an impressive feat especially when you take into account that I also have a neon orange couch straight from the late 60's as a wallpaper accessory.
Zooey again!!! Looking just as fabulous as usual. You go girl, keep up the good work.

Some pretty summer-y things
It has been so gray here in Pavia for the last few days, which makes me more and more nostalgic for summer. Sooner or later the heat and sunshine will arrive, until then prepare yourselves for a constant stream of old summer-y photos that have been dragged up from the depths of my dusty and cob-webbed computer files. Chili peppers from Burough market in London! Burough market was one of the coolest farmer's markets I have ever seen. Apart from the ferry building market in San Francisco and the nomadic Berkeley farmer's market(I've got roots to respect guys and I may possibly be a wee bit biased). Just look at all that red hot color and sunshine though!
A corner street at Coney island. Looking at this photo makes me remember the delightful mugginess of the east coast. I would kill to be smothered in humid still air right about now.
The ferris wheel at Coney island. The colors of this magical contraption were truly splendid, not to mention the view! You can see the Manhattan skyline from the top, I would have spent hours and hours up there if I could have.

a few favorites
Here are a few pictures from different places I have been in the last couple months. This first picture is Corso Garibaldi in Pavia, it is one of my absolute favorite streets, which is lucky because my apartment has an amazing view of it AND I walk down it at least twice a day. The fancy shop windows change pretty regularly, so keeping tabs on them and discussing new developments has become an avid hobby. I love this picture, although I wasn't actually enjoying the atmosphere at the time due to the fact that it was taken in the wee hours of the morn. Here is my good friend Jeremy munching on some prickly chestnuts in Bologna.
Amsterdam tulips!! I was afraid that we wouldn't see any beautiful flowers since we were in Amsterdam in mid December, but those green-thumbed dutch keep them coming all year long at the floating flower market.
One of the best hot chocolates I have ever had the pleasure to sip. We must have lounged around in this comfy cafe for about an hour and a half trying to avoid the freezing Amsterdam winds. The canals were beautiful, but boy did they chill things up.

Missing __________
Today I am missing flowers. It seems like forever since I have seen one! I especially miss the ones from my garden in California(the picture above is of my garden this summer). Good thing spring is slowly creeping up on us! It shouldn't be too long before the little guys start popping up by the Ticino river. I really can't wait!
Workout problem solved!
I am thrilled to share that I have discovered the cure to lack of workout enthusiasm! Fortunately for us it doesn't include wearing neon leotards, although I must say the picture above does tempt me to go out and buy a few, maybe just to lounge around the house in. You know, the usual thing you do in fluorescent clothing. Well anyways, the real secret is to find some bangin music to blast while pumping away at the stair master. And this is where my recent itunes purchase comes into play. Gossip's CD Music for Men is screechy and righteous in all the right ways, not to mention the killer bass and drum beats. Plus just look how edgy cool they are!

Dear Snow,
You know you're really not too bad. It's a shame that you can only exist in ridiculously low temperatures, I mean I really think we could have had something together. Don't feel bad though, it's not you, it's me! I can't over ride my bodies inability to cope in cold weather, it is way to comfortable in nonseason land(sometimes referred to as the Bay Area). Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that I think you are really beautiful and I am trying to enjoy you to the max while we live together.
Love,
